Brief History about Qutub Minar:

The first ruler of Delhi that is Qutab-ud-din Aibak built the Qutub Minar in 1192. The Minar has been named either after Qutab-ud-din Aibak or after the sufi saint Qutbuddin Bakhtiar Kaki. On the ruins of Lal Kot the ground storey was built. The successor of Aibak that is Iltutmish built three more storeys. The topmost storey was damaged in 1369 and it was reconstructed by Firuz Shah Tughlaq. He also added another storey to the Minar. An earthquake damaged the Qutub Minar in 1505 which was then repaired by Sikander Lodi. In 1803 another earthquake caused major destruction. The Minar was renovated by the Major Robert Smith who was from the British Indian army. He added a sixth storey to the Minar which was removed by The Viscount Hardinge, then Governor General of India and was installed at the ground level and is known as Smith’s folly.
