It was the palace of residence of the Mughal Emperors for nearly 200 years. It hosts numerous museums. It was used as ceremonial, political center of the Mughal state. It was constructed in the year 1639, by the fifth Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. The fort is known as Red fort because of use of Red sandstone massive enclosing walls. The effort was built originally by Shah Jahan's favorite colour White and Red. The British authorities, later on, painted the Fort with Red all over because the white color was vanished due to negligence.

Timings of the Fort:

It remains opens all days between 9:30 am- 4:30 pm, except Monday.
